recently..

i've recently been taking pictures for the jewelry i bought in France, and this was one beautiful crucifix that i got there :) ~ and yep, that is my wisdom tooth beside it. It was forcibly taken out by my dentist last week-ouch.

below is a large paper clip that i found while rummaging around the flea markets.. it is a gorgeous piece with lots of patina, rust and character.
it can be found in the shop HERE :)

A few of my favorite items

A couple of beautiful items I love and cherish :)
Two beautiful Georgian rings. The one on the left has a border of black enamel surrounding a sepia painting of a willow tree and an urn. The ring on the left is jet surround a locket of woven hair.
This is an antique locket with a beautiful painting of a lady on the left and her husband on the right. The locket was dented on the front and back when i found it but I still love it a lot.
the cat ring was made by myself and the Buddha pendant was from Chester era. The turquoise and seed pearl ring was made in the Victorian era and inscribed with the words "to Cassie from uncle". I found it during my first trip to London and it has been with me ever since.
The gold bracelet belongs to my grandmother and I got it from my mum when I got engaged in 2009.
Lastly, this chain was from my dad. The chain is over 40 years old but still in excellent condition. I've added my favorite antique cross (it came from Russia).

that's all :-) do you have anything you like or cherish? I will love to hear from you too! - please leave a link if you'll like to share :)

Recently- things that make me happy..

Recently I've been busy and never happier! I enrolled myself in a short metalsmithing class and enjoyed every single lesson i attended :) There's still two more lessons before i finish but urgh, I hope it doesn't ends.

I still had reservations about going for a class at first because i am quite shy and I am really bad at starting a conversation. But i'm really GLAD that i forced myself to go for the classes- metal smithing makes me happy! My classmates are pretty independent and much older than me so everyone don't talk much other than a few short conversations regarding our work or hi & byes- they are actually nice people, but i just dont know what to say to them so erm... I'll just keep to myself. *I prefer to blog it out :)

Here's a ring that I made during the class,

I've always feel that I can't accomplish much with my hands but this time, i'm pretty proud of myself when i make this cat ring (pats myself on the back). It came out the way i wanted but it's still not finished yet,( I have not yet push the sides of the bezel in)

I'm so hyped up for my last two classes! We're learning to make a prong setting and for the final project, we're going to design a piece with the materials left from the previous classes- can't wait.

Is there anything that makes you happy recently? feel free to share!

my trip to Battersea..

On my trip to London, i went to a flea market and got this tiny figurine. Come to think of it, it cost 6 pounds, not 3. - no wonder the guy next to me gave me a " i think you must be mad" look when i say i'm buying it.

A visit to St James's Park

During my trip to London, my parents and I took a trip to St James's Park. It was a beautiful place in autumn with all the trees in the platelet of yellow, orange, gold, brown and red. The grounds are filled with leaves of different shapes and sizes and there are squirrels everywhere :)

didn't take much photos cause my fingers were numb by the cold..
A man feeding squirrels.. :)
..this squirrel was too fast for me *nibbles, nibbles.
For those who are visiting London, do go there! it's really easy to find the place-(from my memory) just take the tube to St James's Park station, turn right when you walk out of the station, walk straight and turn left at the first turn, cross the road and TA-DAH! St James's Park. walking further out the park (which we did) you can walk to the Westminster bridge, the London eye, Waterloo bridge and Victoria tower too :) A handful of tube stations and bus stops can be found around the area so it's pretty convenient to travel back (to your hotel) if you're tired.

My parents and I enjoyed the place, the structures and the cool, crisp air and left the park feeling light hearted. Hopefully I will be able to visit there next year in Spring to see the blooming flowers and lush green trees:)

I'm trying to get used to...

.... Working again. Now I work 9 hours straight on weekdays and 12 hours on weekends with no off days.  I'm am not used to it and it felt oh-so-hard. I had a breakdown today for working so damn hard ( because im the only "staff" there and i had to do everything). I felt that i've lost all my freedom for my husband's shop and for having to sit next to a fried carrot cake stall (which means lots of fumes, grease and heat for the whole day) and smiling to all customers (even those nasty ones) who came eventhough I'm terribly tired and seriously lack of sleep (look at my eye bags!) I got myself toast with thick slices of  butter sprinkled with sugar and sat down for a while, enjoyed my toast and I felt so much better. The next customer came and I'm full of smiles again and felt ready to overcome the hard days ahead. The sales today is even better than the day before and I met some really nice customers too.

Sorry for this emotional post today! I guess everyone has a bad day ever now and then but hey, i guess everything will turn out just fine.

(something that made me smile- ahh the fat cheeks o^v^o )
:) I hope that everyone have a great day today!

Lots of green..

There's lots of green on my table today and I took all of them out to my favorite photo taking area (the corridor) and snapped a picture.
1. Mr Alien soft toy that I bought from Toys"R"Us in Malaysia, it speaks!
2. A bunch of stones in a green suede pouch my dad got for me from Durham, UK.
3. The woven bracelet is from my husband, he just bought it today :) I like it because it is made from recycled materials.
The pale green beaded bracelet is from TheVamoose .
4. Art Deco necklace from the 30s ( now in my shop! )

I'm thankful..

Last year, I opened Erin Antiques in October. I was worried and uncertain about what beholds in the future for the shop. I didn't have much capital to start with and I was working part-time and it was stressful. The first month I only had one sale, though disappointed, I was really thankful to that customer who bought my signet ring. It sparks my motivation to read more and research more about what I was selling. I took initiative to wake up early to take a massive lot of pictures and choosing the best (that I think) for the listing. I've made the decision to quit my job in February this year (due to some health issues). My shop has since been a joy and comfort to me, and I am happy doing the thing I love.
*
I'll like to thank everyone who had purchased a piece of vintage jewelry from my shop and since I'm reaching my first 100th sale, I will send a little something along with the purchase for my 100th customer :)

I'm really thankful.
Oh! And happy Easter day!

(&p.s: do pardon me if I make any grammar/vocab mistakes in my post)

Love,
Erin

things that makes me happy: my soap stone bracelet

I love my small soapstone elephant charm bracelet :) Even though the silver wash has worn off and the base metal has tarnished and there's some verdigris in those hard-to-clean little corners, I love it a lot. It has so much charm! The little ivory and rose colored elephants make my day.

p.s: is anything piece of jewelry you love that makes you happy? feel free to share :)

My rock collection

today's weather was great and i took all my rocks out to the corridor (i'm staying in a flat, so the only place i can get lots of sunshine is the common corridor) and took a picture of them.

I'm not really sure why i like collecting rocks, but the colors do makes me smile :)

have a great day everyone!

A new shop seal!

Had an antique style seal custom-made for Erin Antiques today! It's a heavy brass seal hand engraved by a metal smith from China- so fun watching him work his way through the thick metal it in front of me :) It cost me a bit more than buying the usual handmade stamp (around $160) but i think it's worth it and it's great to support another handmade artist.

done :)

{ have a happy weekend! }

vintage 1920s rope choker necklace

I recently found this old photograph (from the 1930s). And the necklace the pretty lady is wearing matches a necklace that I've acquired from Essex, UK a year ago - How lucky! I named the necklace ESTER after the name found behind the photo :)
{ in the shop today! }
